iOS 10.2 has got some important features such as Single Sign-On, Emergency SOS and of course the fabulous “TV” app. Hidden deep in the Settings app, there is a fascinating feature called “Preserve Settings.”
Once enabled, “Preserve Settings” would let you save the last used mode in Camera. As a result, Camera app would open in the same mode you used last time. For instance, if you use Square mode in the Camera, it will remain in the same mode and won't reset to the default setting unlike before when you open it next time.
Likewise, if you use “Transfer” filter in the stock Photos app, it will preserve it. Hence, the filters won’t reset to None when you open the Photos app next time. The best thing about it is that you don’t have to remember which mode you used last time. Here is how it works:

Note: Make sure to update your iPhone to iOS 10.2 to use this feature.Step #1. Launch Settings app on your iOS device → Next, you have to scroll down and tap on Photos & Camera.
Step #2. Now, tap on Preserve Settings which is under Camera section.
Step #3. You should see three options on the next screen:
- Camera Mode: It allows you to preserve the last mode like Video or Square instead of the default Photo option.
- Photo Filter: It lets you preserve the last used filter like Process, Fade or Transfer.
- Live Photo: It enables you to preserve the Live Photo setting. By default, it's turned on.
That's all there is to it! From now onwards, the last used mode will be automatically preserved.
